"I wish they hadn't installed TikTok" whines grieving parents 22/02/26

A surreal internet challenge has been the main threat to our children for years; What do we do?

The TikTok "Deadly Spike" challenge has achieved major notoriety amongst the younger generations, but when an adult initiated an unexpected slam into a spike citing the trend as his motive, heads were turned to TikTok and its influence on the young.

Following his recovery, the anonymous victim (who here uses the name Jer'alijee'emiaarohn Doe) has campaigned to shut off access to deadly spikes from children as a result of the disaster.

The issue can be confusing - so The Penarth Hooter offers a special report regarding the facts about the case.

Deadly spikes

I mean, it's fun. It feels good to do it.

- Anonymized child, Cowbridge school, year 11

The deadly spike challenge is a format for social, personal content, similar to many other challenges on the platform. A child will have to respond to a series of prompts, and if the answer to any of the questions isn't "I have done it one time" then the rules dictate that the child must impale their hand on a deadly spike.

Most of these... "challenges" ...aren't challenging. This one's actually hard, so it's cool.

- Anonymized child, Ysgol Bro Preseli, year 10

The challenge sprung into the Gen Z zeitgeist around 2023 but, beyond that, little is known about its origins. Since then, the black market sale of deadly spikes has seen prices raised to cash in on the phenomenon.

I don't get what the fuss is about. If you go to A&E they give you a replacement [hand]

- Anonymized child, Ysgol Eirias, year 12

The Penarth Hooter knows this issue, and we know the codewords amongst those who subscribe to the challenge. So please, trust us when we say to worry if your children:

  • "Enjoy manual penetration" (manual meaning "of the hands")
  • "Record videos on TikTok"
  • "Get off [one's] tits with Buddy Chuck"

Other TikTok challenges

The idolization of those who use video platforms has given rise to a wave of filmmakers- while this may sound worrying, many familiar faces might be considered "Youtube babies", such as Josh Safdie or advertiser Steve Mills.

Kids grow up too fast on Tiktok. I'm only ten and I look like this:

Other communities like fanfictok and booktok seem to be good influences, until you see what it is that they're reading.

What's more, friendtok and truthtok sound like a breath of fresh air from the common e-attitude, but any tiktok user will tell you they don't exist- Which our experts believe may be because they literally don't.

After reading back this article, we launched an investigation into Buddy Chuck, on which we plan to keep our readers up to date.
